Herman Braun began as an aspirant cyclist in 1969 at the cycling club PRC Delta in Spijkenisse. He then cycled as a novice until, as a 16-year-old, he started working as a mechanic for Kees Pellenaars' famous cycling team during the Tour of Spain. He was involved as a mechanic with the Dutch military cycling team for three years, culminating in the World Championships in Italy.
Herman switched to the Gazelle cycling team. This team included riders such as Eric Breukink and Jean-Paul van Poppel.. By the mid 80's Herman stopped working as a mechanic at Gazelle to focus fully on designing and producing steel bicycle frames.
Today Braun Bicycles is located in Spijkenisse just outside of Rotterdam where Dave is now joined by his son in building custom bicycle frames in the state-of-the-art workshop thus continuing the now rare form of artisanal cottage industry that was once so common with bicycles.
