1983 Colnago Super Profil 3rd version Columbus 56cm
This bicycle is as special as it is mysterious.
The Colnago Super Profil was an experimental line of bikes that incorporated crimped steel tubing to add additional stiffness. This is the third version which has two crimps on the top and down tube. According to some sources, this model is the same that Giuseppe (Beppe) Saronni won the 1982 World Championships. Check out this article by Cycling Obsession which explains some of the conflicting information on the history of this bicycle - including from Colnago themselves.
This confusion aside, what is certain is that this Colnago is a masterpiece that represents the pinnacle of road bicycles produced in this era. Equipped with Campagnolo and Cinelli components and finished with Veloflex Master tires this bicycle could stand proudly in any collection.
Despite this bike's pedigree, it was rescued from an owner who had not looked after it very well. There is surface rust on the top-tube (mostly underneath the brake outer cable) and there is a small ding on the rear right seat stay. Please see the last pictures for details.
