An eye-catching Jan Jansen built around the special Shimano AX group of components. Despite its Dutch branding, this bike is really a Japanese cult classic with an interesting backstory.
In the early 80's Shimano brought out the AX range of groupsets. These were revolutionary at the time in terms of bringing to the fore many innovations relating to aerodynamics. Shimano then licences Panasonic, the latter then being a large bicycle manufacturer, to make frames with ovalised tubes and other aerodynamic features. and kitted out with AX components. These frames were then distributed around the world and rebranded, inter alia, as Jan Jansen.
Although this particular bike is made up of the Shimano Adamas AX groupset which was the bottom of the the three AX groupsets (Adamas, 600 and Dura-Ace) it is nearly complete in terms of being a complete AX bike: including for instance the hard-to-find water bottle.
