About Superia (battle of the Claey brothers)
The Claeys family in De Leeuw in the Netherlands were metal smiths since the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, Leon Claeys founded an independent company that would make agricultural machines and then bicycles. By 1927, it had produced 250,000 bicycles. In 1956 a conflict between two Claey brothers led to the factory in Zedelgem being bricked up and divided the factory in two. One brother, Aimé, continued to produce under the name " Flandria ", while the other brother, Remi continued production under the brand name "Superia". Remi built a new factory on his part and named it Superia. Both brothers delivered a competitive battle in the bicycle sector.
